| QUESE IMC Quese Imc, born Marcus Frejo, Little Eagle, is an award-winning Hip Hop Emcee, independent music producer, and cultural activist. Quese is a member of the Pawnee and Seminole Nations. With this heritage and culture Quese has since a very young age mixed his love for Hip Hop with his love for his people creating a sound called “Native Hip Hop.” Quese’s artistic style mixes the modern substance of freestyling, Hip Hop, and Funk with strictly traditional Native American forms and traditional values. His lyrical style is a unique, cultured-eclectic, soulful, and moving way of expressing his idea of Hip Hop music. Quese has a high energy stage presence that is gutsy but at the same time raw, open, and vulnerable. Quese is a performer who takes risks with his audience. Through Quese’s freestyling, as one reviewer noted, is a “young man [who] opens his shirt and bares his heart and soul, revealing his deepest most private angst and his highest hopes, dreams, and aspirations for all to see.” The foundational message of Quese IMC is one of love for Native people, traditional lifeways, cultural identity, pride, the importance of historical memory, and empowerment. Quese’s message is also one of tolerance. Through his lyrical and musical stylings, a mix of Hip Hop and traditional and contemporary Native music, Quese invites audiences to not only celebrate cultural pride but to accept others, accept themselves, to value each other, and to celebrate diversity. MUSICAL ACHIEVEMENTS Quese’s interests, talents as a composer and producer, and his energy propelled him to become one of the top Native Emcees in the country today. Competing in national Emcee Battles, including MTV’s “Def Jam,” and talent shows and concerts, Quese has established himself as a seasoned performer with an accomplished resume. Some of acts that Quese has opened for include: Snoop Dogg; Ludacris; Tyrese; Cee-Lo; Clipse; Petey Pablo; Grandmaster Flash; The Pharcyde; Hieroglyphics; Atmosphere; Visionaries; and Kumbia Kings. Quese IMC is also co-founder with brother Brian Frejo (DJ Shock B) of Culture Shock Camp, an all-Native hiphop group originating out of Oklahoma City. Culture Shock was named “one of the most celebrated hip-hop groups in the Native American world” by The Source Magazine, one of the largest-selling hiphop magazines in the country. Quese IMC as a solo artist and with Culture Shock has toured more than 400 reservations and cities nationwide over last four years, playing to crowds as large as 25,000, and bringing his and Culture Shock Camp’s unique Native Hip Hop sound and message of hope, wellness, and Native pride to thousands of Native youth. “The Betty Lena Project,” is Quese’s fifth album release won the 2006 First Americans in the Arts “Outstanding Musical Achievement” Award. Quese IMC and his album were also nominated for “Best Hip- Hop/Rap” by the highly respected Indian Summer Music Awards in 2006. As a producer and Emcee, Quese has braided his cultural music and the voices of our elders and blended it with Hip Hop.
